Namaste ladies and gents,
July, right in the thicket of summer, has been just right, goldilocks-style, here at Buckhorn Gardens: a touch of rain, thunder, and lightening, dewy mornings, lovely sunrises and sunsets upon the dome and high tunnels with sunflowers pointing the way to 'el sol', and temp swings that benefit our ever growing crops for your future edible pleasure.
We harvested garlic about 3 weeks ago and it is curing quite perfectly in the penthouse of the barn! Look for it in your next share (8/14), come get some at the farm (shoot us an email first) or at local farmers' markets (7/31 at Telluride Farmer's Market). It will hopefully be on offer until late winter...???
The cucumbers in the high tunnel are yielding a fierce amount of poundage so get them while they are ripe and ready.
Bunching onions/scallions and leeks are ready to rock and roll and were harvested last week. Look for them in your next share (8/14), come get some at the farm (shoot us an email first) or at local farmers' markets (7/31 at Telluride Farmer's Market).
The tomatoes (cherries mostly) are turning for employee sponsored random taste tasting and will be availible soon...Many are already testing the strength of our trellises, which is some good news for us all!
Peppers are bursting forth in the field and in the walpini. We planted sweet, hot and of course some unique varieties for your shares and to colour our market table! Look for them in your next share and at the market.
The crew has really enjoyed the Telluride Farmers' markets in July and wishes to thank everyone there, vendors, wayfarers, and fellow farmers (High Dessert Seed, Canyon of the Ancients, Wild Mesa Farm, Tomten Farm, Indian Ridge Farm, White Buffalo Farm, First Fruits and Abundant Life Farm)!
See y'all soon...
